Mall giant Shoe Mart (SM for short) plans to cut and uproot a total of 182 trees at the Luneta Hill to give way to a pay parking lot. Specifically, to cut 43 fully grown Alnus japonica trees and uproot 97 growing pine trees (Pinus kesiya) and 42 saplings. Apparently, Sec. Paje signed the clearance in October 2011 which led to the issuance of a permit for for the cutting, balling, and pruning trees at the Luneta Hill-Governor Pack Road. Here’s the proposed SM building:

Baguio residents are calling to boycott SM and to occupy the area where the cutting will take place. A protest rally is scheduled this Friday, January 20.
If you can’t join the protest and wish to help, sign the online petition to “stop the cutting and uprooting of trees” here
